Helen and Mayor Pam King, supporting The Furniture Station
Helen Foster-Grime, European Parliamentary candidate for the North West of England, joined Mayor of Stockport Pam King at a 'Chocolate Fantasy Evening' this weekend to promote the Mayor's charity, The Furniture Station. The Furniture Station was set up in 1994 to help homeless people and families in need living in Stockport, including refugees, elderly people, lone parents and young people, providing them with good quality re-used furniture and electrical items, such as cookers and fridges.
Helen said, "The Furniture Station is a remarkable charity run by dedicated people who really make a difference to the lives of disadvantaged people in Stockport, such as the resident who, after being targeted by youths in his property and suffering from alcoholism, ended up in hospital with pneumonia. He was eventually able to be re-housed comfortably, and settled into a new flat with the Furniture Station providing the basic items he needed for his home."
The Furniture Station, which is supported by Liberal Democrat Stockport Council, has to work hard to continue and maintain their funding streams with many different events. Helen, a councillor in Stockport, said, "This year's mayor is one of the best we have ever had in the North West! Not only is Lib Dem Cllr Pam King hardworking and committed to helping people in need, but she is also courageous! Pam, and her brave Mayoress Justine King, are going to take part in a sponsored sky dive in the spring to raise money for the Furniture Station. A freefall jump at 10,000ft2 - that's dedication!"
